Founders story
I built Blue Dots because
I couldn't find my own tools
Blue Dots started in a small garage in Norway. I was a mechanic, I had just lost my job, and I couldn't find anything I owned.
The problem
Searching for your own things shouldn't be a job
After I lost my job I came home to a garage full of tools, and I was spending more time looking for them than using them. Minutes turned into hours and hours turned into years, all of it spent opening boxes, checking shelves and retracing my own steps to find something I already owned.
So I cleaned it up. Storage boxes, labels, a proper system. And it worked. The space transformed. Things I had given up on turned up. Things I inherited. Things I had forgotten I owned. It was Christmas Eve every time I went through my own belongings, and organizing started to feel like treasure hunting.
But something was still missing. I had too much to remember where it all went, even after I had just put it there. The next day I was back where I started, opening every box again, guessing which one held what.
What if I could tap a photo and know?
Then it struck me. a dot on a photograph. Take a picture of the room, drop a small blue dot on the storage box where the thing lives, and know what is inside that box without opening it. No labels, no spreadsheets, no barcodes. Just a photo I already recognize and a dot that tells me what is there.
That was the invention. Blue Dots on a photo.
I realized it couldn't stay a personal app. If it saved me hours in one garage, it could save millions of hours for people in homes, workshops, warehouses and storage units. That turned an idea into a mission, and the mission needed a name. I called it Blue Dots.
The app gets easier the more you use it. The cleaner your house or garage or storage becomes, the simpler it gets. Search for something you organized before and you know where it is, which box, in which room, because the dots let you see inside those boxes wherever you are.
So I started working on it day in and day out, trying to make it as secure and as simple as I could, so that whatever your age, you could use it.
The Blue Dots mission
A small change that creates a big ripple
I believe in the butterfly effect of organizing your own space. One person deciding to take control sets off a chain reaction: less time wasted searching, more time spent doing, and a home or workspace that finally works with you instead of against you.
Blue Dots exists because of one belief. Taking responsibility for what you own is a mindset, not just a chore. When you know where everything is, you stop buying duplicates, you waste less, and you start seeing the value in what you already have. That is better for your wallet and better for the planet.
Everyone deserves less clutter and more clarity. Whether you have one toolbox or an entire workshop, knowing exactly where to find what you need feels the same, and that is the feeling I want to give to every person who downloads this.
Blue Dots is a movement toward mindful ownership, one organized space at a time.
What Blue Dots stands for
What I build for
Minimalism first
I think an app should be minimal and quiet. Every feature is built that way from the first tap.
Built for everyone
From weekend DIYers to professional contractors, it scales with what you need without getting complicated.
Speed matters
When you need something, you need it now. Search is fast and the interface is built for speed, not for features you never use.
