Blue Dots

Last updated · September 24, 2026

1. Acceptance and Eligibility

By accessing Blue Dots™ ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

You must meet the following age requirements to use the App:

  • You are at least 13 years of age (in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act).
  • If you are a resident of the European Union or European Economic Area, you are at least 16 years of age, or a parent or legal guardian has provided consent to your use of the App and accepted these Terms on your behalf (in compliance with Article 8 of the General Data Protection Regulation).
  • You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.

You are responsible for ensuring the date of birth you provide is accurate. We may verify age information and may terminate accounts of users found to be below the applicable age threshold.

2. Description of Service

Blue Dots™ is a mobile application for organizing and tracking physical items by photo, location, and label. The App is offered in three usage modes:

  • Personal mode — a single-user organizer for items you own.
  • Spaces (Family or Work) — persistent shared organizers in which multiple users contribute items under role-based access. Family Spaces are intended for households; Work Spaces are intended for small teams.
  • Personal Share — view-only, time-limited links you can issue to allow another user to see (but not modify) the items in your Personal mode.

The App also lets you connect with other people:

  • Friends — add someone with their friend code so you can message each other. Being friends shares nothing on its own, except the things you mark to let go.
  • Messages — one-to-one messages and photos between you and a friend, or someone you share a Space or an active Personal Share with.
  • Sharing with friends — send one room, one Blue Dot or one item to a friend in your chat so they can look at it. View-only, one thing per send, and it lasts until you stop (see Section 9).
  • Showing things to friends — the things you mark to let go are shown to all your friends. They can comment, and all your friends can read the comments (see Section 9).
  • Offers — tell the owner of a thing you want it, or make an offer, as a message in your chat. Blue Dots is not part of any sale (see Section 9).
  • Referral codes — a code you can share; when someone enters it, you can both get a free period of Pro (see Section 10).

You can also export your own inventory as a PDF document — including your rooms, items, photos, and any receipts you attached — to keep or share. See section 13 for what an exported PDF is (and is not).

We may add, change, or remove features over time. We will give reasonable notice of material changes that affect paid plans.

3. Your Account

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You must provide accurate information when registering and keep your contact email current.

Your display name is shown to your friends, to the people in your Spaces, and to anyone who types your friend code. Use a name that is yours to use. Do not use a name that impersonates another person, or that suggests you are Blue Dots or speak for us.

You may sign in with email and password or through a supported third-party identity provider, such as Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple. The same eligibility requirements apply regardless of sign-in method.

4. Subscription Plans and Payments

Plan types

The App is offered on a free tier and several paid tiers. Paid plans are billed in advance on a monthly or annual cycle through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Pricing and any applicable taxes are shown at the point of purchase.

  • Personal plans (Pro, Premium) — single-user. You are the sole party billed and the sole user with access to your items.
  • Family plans (Family Small, Family Large) — multi-user. The Space owner is the sole party billed. Members do not pay and do not assume billing responsibility.
  • Business plans (Work Spaces) — multi-user. The Space owner (whether an organization or an individual subscriber) is the sole party billed.

Stacking entitlements

If you hold a Personal plan and are also a Member of a Family or Work Space, your entitlements may "stack": your Personal plan remains active and billed independently, while your Member access is granted by the Space owner's subscription. You may cancel your Personal plan at any time without affecting your Member access to a Space.

Auto-renewal and cancellation

Paid subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple App Store or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase. You can manage or cancel renewal at any time in your app store account settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Where a free trial is offered, its length is shown at purchase, and any unused portion of a trial is forfeited when a paid subscription begins. Prices may change with notice. Refunds are handled according to the applicable app store policies.

Right of withdrawal (EEA / Norway consumers — angrerett)

If you are a consumer in the EEA, you normally have the right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days without giving a reason. Because Blue Dots is a digital service supplied immediately, when you start a subscription you expressly request that we begin providing the service at once and acknowledge that you lose this 14-day right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed for the period you purchased. If the service has only been partly performed, you may still withdraw but may owe a proportionate amount for what you have used. Your statutory app-store refund routes are unaffected.

5. Spaces and Roles

Each Space has exactly one Owner and zero or more Members and Viewers, subject to the seat cap of the Space's plan.

Owner

The user who created the Space and pays the subscription. The Owner can invite or remove Members and Viewers, change a Member's role, edit or remove any item in the Space, and cancel the Space's subscription. The Owner can see all items contributed to the Space, including items that Members have marked private to other Members; per-Member privacy controls limit visibility to other Members and Viewers, not to the Owner.

Member

A user invited to contribute to the Space. Members can add items to the Space and edit or remove items they themselves contributed. Members cannot invite or remove other users, change roles, edit other Members' items, or cancel the subscription. Members can leave the Space at any time.

Viewer

A user invited for read-only access. Viewers can see items in the Space (subject to per-item visibility settings) but cannot add, edit, or remove items.

The Owner is responsible for the conduct of the Space and the lawfulness of content contributed within it.

6. Joining a Space

When you accept an invitation to a Space, you acknowledge each of the following:

  • The Space Owner can see all items you contribute to that Space, including items you mark private to other Members.
  • Other Members and Viewers of the Space can see items you contribute, subject to your per-item visibility settings.
  • Your display name, your role in the Space, and the date you joined are visible to other Space participants.
  • The Space Owner can remove you from the Space at any time. You can leave the Space at any time. In either case, items you contributed remain with the Space (see Section 7).
  • Invitation codes expire 24 hours after creation and may only be redeemed by the email address to which the invitation was issued.

Acceptance of an invitation is your agreement to participate in the Space under these Terms.

7. Content You Contribute

You retain ownership of items you contribute. By contributing items to the App, you grant Mytools Søgnesand a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to store, process, transmit, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating the App for you and, where applicable, other authorized users of a Space, a Personal Share link, a friend you choose to share a room, Blue Dot or item with, or your friends, when a thing you mark to let go is shown to them. When you write a comment, the same license covers showing it to everyone who can see the thing you commented on.

In a Family or Work Space, items you contribute remain with the Space after you leave, are removed, or delete your account. The Space Owner and remaining Members continue to see those items until the Owner removes them. If you require items you contributed to be removed, you must do so before leaving the Space, or contact the Space Owner.

You represent that you have the right to upload any content you contribute and that the content does not infringe on the rights of any third party.

8. Personal Share

Personal Share lets you issue a view-only, time-limited link that grants another user access to items in your Personal mode.

  • Duration — links are valid for 7, 14, or 30 days from the time of creation, at your choice. After expiry, access is automatically revoked.
  • Revocation — you may revoke a Personal Share link at any time before expiry; access ends immediately upon revocation.
  • No write access — viewers cannot add, edit, or remove your items.
  • Viewer obligations — a Personal Share viewer may not copy, redistribute, screenshot for redistribution, or otherwise share the content beyond their own personal viewing. Personal Share is a personal courtesy granted by you to a specific viewer, not a publication right.
  • No audit log — Personal Share access events are not currently recorded in an audit log. Treat Personal Share links as you would a temporary access password: issue them only to people you trust, and revoke them when no longer needed.

9. Friends, Messages and Comments

Friends and Messages let you connect with people in the App.

  • Becoming friends takes two steps: one person sends a request using the other person's friend code, and the other person accepts it. Either of you can end the friendship at any time.
  • Sharing with a friend is view-only and one thing per send. You pick a room, a Blue Dot or an item and send it in your chat. Sharing is per friend and off until you turn it on, and you can stop one thing, or all of it, at any time. Your friend cannot add, change or remove anything you share, and cannot pass it on inside the App. Each thing you send stays open until you stop it.
  • A room photo is shown whole, so whatever else is in the frame is shown with it. Do not share photos that show other people, or their belongings or documents, without their consent.
  • A friend you share with may not copy, redistribute, screenshot for redistribution, or otherwise share what you showed them beyond their own personal viewing. Sharing is a personal courtesy you grant to one person, not a publication right. Stopping a share does not recall anything they have already seen or saved.
  • Messages are between you and one other person. A message cannot be edited or taken back once it is sent. The other person keeps their copy for as long as the conversation exists; the conversation is removed when either of you deletes your account.
  • You may block anyone who messages you or sends you a friend request. A blocked person cannot message you or send you friend requests, and any friendship between you ends. A block lasts until you unblock the person from your conversation with them, or either account is deleted. A block you make from a friend request, where there is no conversation, lasts until either account is deleted.
  • You may report a person. We may review the conversation you reported from and, where these Terms have been broken, warn, restrict, or remove an account.
  • Friend requests, messages, comments and offers are covered by Acceptable Use (Section 11).

Showing things to friends, and comments

  • Things you mark Want to Sell, Donate or Gift, or Get Rid Of are shown to all your friends once they have a photo. You choose by the status you give a thing, and you can stop showing one at any time. Only people you are friends with can see it.
  • Your friends can comment on it, and all your friends can read every comment — including comments from people they do not know.
  • A comment cannot be edited once it is sent. You can delete your own comments. The owner of a thing can hide or remove any comment on it.
  • Showing a thing, like sharing one, is a personal courtesy to your friends, not a publication right. Friends may not copy or pass on what you show them beyond their own personal viewing.
  • You are responsible for what you show and what you write. Only show things that are yours to sell or give away, and that are legal to sell or give away where you live.

Offers, sales and handovers

  • "I want this", "Ask for it" and "Make an offer" send a message to the owner in your chat. An offer you send in Blue Dots is a message, not an agreement. You and the other person decide price, payment and handover between yourselves.
  • Blue Dots does not buy, sell or hold anything for you, and is not a party to any sale, gift or loan you arrange with someone else. Blue Dots takes no fee, handles no payment, and does not check the things shown, the people involved, or whether a sale goes through.
  • Showing things to friends is for private people passing on their own things. Do not use it to run a business or to sell as a trader.
  • If you are under 18, the things you mark to let go are shown to your friends in the same way. Talk to a parent or guardian before you mark something to sell or give away, and before you agree to buy, sell or hand over anything.
  • We recommend meeting somewhere public, and not paying for something until you have it in your hands.

Reports and removal

  • You can report any comment, and any thing someone shows you. We look at every report within 24 hours.
  • We do not check comments before they appear, but we filter them and act on reports.
  • When a comment or a shown thing breaks these Terms, we may remove it, stop showing the thing, stop the account from commenting or showing things for a period, or suspend or close the account (see Section 12).
  • If we remove something of yours or stop you from commenting or showing things, and you think we got it wrong, email support@bluedotsapp.com and we will look at it again.

10. Referral Codes

Every account can get a referral code to share. Codes start with BD-.

  • When someone who has not redeemed a referral code before and has no active or recently ended paid plan (including as a member of a paid Family or Work Space) enters a code that is still active, they get a free period of Pro, and you can claim one too.
  • Each account can redeem a referral code only once, ever. An account with an active or recently ended paid plan, including as a member of a paid Family or Work Space, cannot redeem a code.
  • A code stops working for everyone once it has been used the maximum number of times, and how often the person sharing it can claim a reward is also limited over time. The length of the free period and the total limit are shown in the App where you share your code.
  • If a free period of Pro is already running on your account, a new one extends it.
  • A free period of Pro may include lower usage limits than a paid Pro plan; the App shows them while the period is active.
  • A free period has no cash value and cannot be exchanged, sold, or transferred.
  • We may disable a code, change the reward or its limits, or pause or end the referral programme at any time.
  • We may disable a code, and withdraw a reward, that was obtained or used through automation, multiple accounts, or misrepresentation.

11. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the App to:

  • Upload content that is unlawful, infringing, abusive, threatening, hateful, sexually explicit, or that violates the privacy of others.
  • Upload images depicting minors in any context that could be considered exploitative.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems, other users' accounts, or Spaces you have not been invited to.
  • Interfere with the operation of the App, including by scraping, automating requests beyond reasonable use, or transmitting malicious code.
  • Use the App to harass, surveil, or coerce another person, including a Space Member.
  • Send friend requests or messages in bulk to people who did not ask for them; use friend requests, messages, comments, offers, a thing you show, or referral codes to harass, pressure, deceive or advertise to anyone; or contact someone who has blocked you by using another account.
  • Show or offer anything that is stolen, counterfeit, not yours to sell or give away, or illegal to sell or give away; or write comments that share another person's personal details or pretend to be someone else.
  • Choose a display name that impersonates another person or organisation, that suggests you are Blue Dots or speak for us, or that is itself abusive, hateful or sexually explicit.
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract source code from the App, except where such restriction is prohibited by applicable law.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. We may remove content, and suspend or terminate access, for violations of this section without prior notice where the violation is material or where notice would itself cause harm.

12. Account Deletion and Termination

Deleting your account

You may delete your account at any time from within the App. When you delete your account, your personal data and the items in your Personal mode are removed from our active systems straight away, except where retention is required by law (see Data Retention in our Privacy Policy for exceptions). Copies in our encrypted backups are purged automatically within 7 days.

If you own a Family or Work Space

If you are the Owner of a Family or Work Space, please note that deleting your account or cancelling the Space's subscription will end other members' access to that Space. Consider transferring or winding down a Space you own before deleting your account.

Items you contributed to a Family or Work Space owned by another user are not deleted by your account deletion; they remain with the Space (see Section 7).

Termination by us

We may suspend or terminate your access to the App, in whole or in part, at our discretion, for breach of these Terms, suspected fraud, prolonged inactivity (after notice), or where required by law. Where reasonable, we will give advance notice and an opportunity to remedy. We may also stop an account from commenting or showing things to friends for a period, as described in Section 9.

13. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The App is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any defects will be corrected.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Mytools Søgnesand will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity arising from or related to your use of the App. Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to these Terms or the App will not exceed the amount you paid to us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law, including, where applicable, mandatory consumer-protection law and liability for death, personal injury, or fraud caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Things other users show. Blue Dots does not check the things other users show, what they write, or what they tell you about a sale. Any sale, gift or loan is between you and the other person. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for the condition, legality, handover or payment of anything arranged between users.

Exported PDF documents. When you export or share your inventory as a PDF, you control where that file goes and are responsible for its contents, including any receipt or third-party information it may contain. An exported PDF is a self-reported record of the items and photos you entered yourself — it is not verified, certified, or independently checked. Blue Dots is not an insurance provider and does not guarantee that any exported document will be accepted for any insurance claim or other purpose.

14. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in the App, in applicable law, or in our business practices. When changes are material, we will give reasonable notice through the App or by email before they take effect. Continued use of the App after the effective date of a change constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not accept the updated Terms, you may delete your account before the effective date (subject to Section 12).

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of Norway, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The courts of Norway will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes arising from or related to these Terms or the App, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence gives you the right to bring proceedings before a court in that country.

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you may also be able to refer a dispute to an approved alternative dispute resolution (ADR) body in your country of residence. Consumers in Norway can contact the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukertilsynet, forbrukertilsynet.no) for mediation of consumer disputes.
